Best Japanese Restaurant
Kitaohji Ginza
2016-11-02
This house turned restaurant is decorated in a traditional Japanese style garden surrounded with bamboo and stone ground. It is Bangkok branch of a reputable restaurant in Tokyo. The wood dominated main dining room is spacious and elegant with floor to ceiling windows lookout to the lovely Zen garden, and a few private rooms in the back. In the reception area we can see the fresh imported fishes, snow crabs and Wagyu beef and many sake and plum wine on display. We tried their Kaiseki sets at first time to get a feel for their cuisine, but had too many small dishes to fill us up- raw sashimi, small cold appetizers, tempura, and cold noodle, so repeated visits we ordered only from a la carte menu and focus on the dishes we like. They prepare the best imported premium ingredients to perfection. We started off with tamago egg which is fluffy and soft, it can be shared as appetizer. The taraba crab leg has decent crab meat and we ordered grilled and tempura fried. The tempura shrimps over rice is very tasty and the fried batter is light. The grilled eel over rice has a rich soya sauce and we can taste the plump eel texture different from cheaper version. We also ordered Wagyu beef sukiyaki with vegetables cooked in an earthenware at the table, and the charcoal-grilled marbled Wagyu beef is very juicy and tender. The kimono-clad waitresses provided graceful service. This is definitely a place to impress guests or celebrate special occasions, because of the high price of imported goods.…Read More

Hong Kong Style Noodle and Congee
Golden Bowl
2016-11-01
This airy restaurant on second floor is very spacious and serves authentic Hong Kong stables. We tasted cha-shu pork, a bit on the dry side and small portioned, but they said no artificial food coloring. The stewed beef and tendon with dry egg noodle is packed with flavors and the beef tendon is braised until tender. A clear soup is served on the side. The congee with sliced liver and beef tasted just like in Hong Kong, and is our comfort food. We washed all down with a pot of Chinese tea, Baht 60. There are even two privates rooms accommodate 10 persons each.…Read More

A Classic Coffee Spot
Pacamara (พาคามาร่า)
2016-11-01
Pacamara is a brand began in Bangkok, distributing own brand of coffee beans and supplies for a long time. They also have coffee shops in Chiangmai before opening in Bangkok. This caffeine-induced spot sells coffee beans by weigh and supplies, and serves a great cup of coffee. Price is very readonable compared to Starbucks. It also has tea, Italian soda, fruit and chocolate frappe. We like to start the day with simple Americano with 1-shot. The pastry selection is limited, only some cookies, coffee cake and chocolate cake when we arrived, so we sticked with the classic lemon pie- soft yet rich lemon cheese in the middle with a cookie crust bottom.…Read More

A Posh Tea Salon with View
1823 Tea Lounge by Ronnefeldt
2016-11-01
Located in the Gaysorn shopping mall, it is easily accessible by BTS. It's a first in Asia opened by the well known tea producer. This is an all day dining place. We walked by sometimes just to grab muffins and danishes to go. When we have leisure time, we enjoyed their afternoon tea set and some light snacks and request a table by the window. The scones are fresh and buttery and served with house jam and honey. Finger sandwiches and small cakes are also delicious. We favored their lightly scented white tea. The staffs are well-trained in their knowledge about the teas since there are so many to choose from.…Read More

Great Gourmet Burger Hideout
Burgers and Bangers
2016-10-31
This tiny burger joint is operated by one woman and her staffs, serves only gourmet burgers and bangers, few soda and beers. That is all we need when craving for a succulent burger and fries. Menu consists of beef, lamb, chicken pork and veggie burger- Baht 230~290.  Lamb burger is one of our favorites- juicy and tender layered with brie cheese and carmelised onion. Another is Signature beef burger- layered with bacon, onion ring and Bearnaise sauce. Sides are sweet potato fries, potato salad and beer battered onion rings. Pork sausage is served in a bun- Baht 170 or two sausages with mash potato- Baht 250. The fluffy buns are freshly baked each day, and she even makes rainbow color buns on request. Menu is written on a chalk board. Most are counter seats but you do get smoke on your clothes for the poor ventilation.…Read More

Nice Coffee and French Toast
Wonderwall l the Kaffebar #26
2016-10-31
The branch is bigger than the original spot on Sukhumvit Soi 31 and has plenty of parking at the A Square plaze! We love to hangout there for a gourmet coffee fix and our favorite dishes are the breakfast eggs with diced sausage on a skillet with crunchy toast on the side, another is the BLT sandwich- succulent bacon strips sauteed to a crispy and layer with lettuce and  tomato in wheat toasts. Their French toast with fruits is also very good- thick and crusty on the outside, soft on the inside, and sprinkled with fruits. Every dish is made fresh, so worth the wait by sipping over coffee and browse their Japanese design magazines!…Read More

Beautiful Bar for Delectable Pastries
Hanuman Bar
2016-10-31
The back-lit marble bar in the corner of the luxury Kempinski hotel lobby opens all day, is a respite from the shopping mall, where we stopped for a quiet time to enjoy coffee, tea, cocktails and pastries. There are many Japanese style cakes, like cream roll cake, strawberry short cake and matcha cake around Baht 160 each, are all of our favorites. Many scattered sofa and large comfortable chairs around the water feature made us feel relaxed after a hectic shopping day at the Siam Paragon next door.…Read More

Modern Thai Cuisine by Young Talented Chef
Le Du
2016-10-30
The restaurant's name, Le Du, means "seasons" in Thai, refers to the changing menu the chef draws from mostly local and seasonal ingredients. The much talk about restaurant with minimal decor serves tasting menu and is reasonably priced compared to other restaurants in the same caliber. We had khao-chae (a cold rice porridge eaten during summer month), raw oyster with sweet acacia, and black Barracuda with chili and lemon, basil as appetizers. Second dish choose from the local mackerel with chu-chee sauce, river prawn with tamarind sauce, or wild mushroom with gourd and Northern style sausage. Main is a choice of local dry-aged beef tenderloin with green curry, free-ranged pork with warm-spiced jus or chicken with pickled ginger, followed by desserts. If you enjoy wine, try their wine pairing menu as add-on. The thirty-something Thai chef graduated from Culinary Institute of American and is also a certified sommelier. …Read More

A Little English Tea Room
Bonnie Dolly's Tea Room
2016-10-30
The tiny English tea room has only 4 tables, and a nice setting to enjoy a pot of tea and scones or go for the afternoon tea set with finger sandwiches. Look through the books relate to tea while listen to the old record player turning nostalgic music. What a pleasant place to spend a quiet afternoon.…Read More

A Green Space within the City
Ad Lib (แอด ลิบ)
2016-10-30
This modern and casual all-day-dining spot in a boutique hotel is surrounded by abundant greenery and its wonderful terrace is perfect to relax. The place feels more like a resort than a city hotel in a small alley- which is a pleasant surprise. The menu consists of international and Thai cuisine. A must order is the succulent Tamarind sauce river prawns. We been here couple times and everything we tried in the menu is good so far, and so are the refreshing blended healthy fruit drinks.…Read More

Great Place to Sample Wine by the Glass
Riedel Wine Bar & Cellar
2016-10-30
The first Riedel wine shop and restaurant where wine is the focus. Many selections of wine can be sampled by purchasing a value added card and use it for the wine in the temperature-controlled wine dispensers. The wine is poured into the famous Riedel wine glass selected for the right wine. The Mediterranean style dishes are designed to be shared and accompany the wines perfectly- such as cheese, cold cuts, dips, spread, oystets and meats. There is a private room to join wine tasting class and an outside balcony to take in the view of the street below and Central World.…Read More

A Kitschy and Colorful Cafe
It's Happened to be a Closet
2016-10-30
This house turned cafe and restaurant is where we love to get together, with delicious salad and pastas- our favorite is the squid ink spaghetti, then to a sitting area with sofa or garden in cool weather for coffee and yummy desserts. Famous for their cream puff that resemble a swan. Upstair is a nail bar and shop for their clothing and accessories. This is an ideal place to throw a themed party as the whole place is decked out in colorful decor and different wallpapers. And every corner is picture perfect!…Read More

Parisien Cafe in Bangkok
Ladurée Salon de Thé
2016-10-29
Laduree is where we girls must pay a visit when in Paris, to stock up on their macaroons and delightful desserts and enjoy an afternoon of slow life. The salon in Bangkok is supervised by a French chef and a pastry chef so you know you are in good hands. An extensive menu of wonderful tea to accompany the many scrumptious desserts that are irresistible. The beautiful cafe is decorated with imported upholstery as if you are dining in Paris!…Read More

Contempoary and Elegant Thai
Sra Bua by Kiin Kiin
2016-10-28
From time to time we like to visit the luxurious Kempenski Bangkok hotel and see what's new on the menu. The dinner tasting menu, Baht 3100++, has many flavors of Thailand but presented in a molecular way. The waiter explained in detail each dish and we were impressed with the creative experience. On our last visit, we booked 2 days ahead and still table available. Clients are mostly business people and couples on a romantic date. Dress code applied.…Read More

Must Eat in BKK
Gaggan
2016-10-27
One of the most-well known and hard to book restaurant now, and is a must eat for any global foodie travelling to BKK. Though the food ingredients are Indian, but never under estimate what the chef can cook up to mess your eyes (in a good way) and feast your stomach. We dined there since beginning while it was a hush-hush place, now the world has discovered Gaggan.…Read More
