Not all LM Leva results in a good cup of coffee

This is Casa Lapin’s first branch inside a major shopping mall and its flagship store after Casa Lapin found a new investor.  This Casa Lapin - Central World 'flagship' store has impressive machines, comprising La Marzocco (LM) Leva, LM’s modern take on age old level machine, and a by a cup brewing siphon inspired Steampunk.  I didn’t have much time on that day to go through all the coffee so I get straight to the point, IMHO, with espresso.

 An espresso I had was roasted quite dark with only a fainted hint of acidity at best.  The cup felt monotonous/uninteresting but sort of drinkable, slightly better than no discernible tone of coffee, just some note like caramel or something else in a thick syrupy sort of tasteless dark brown liquid that tells you it’s coffee, sort of.

 The lever machine doesn’t help the coffee much and I can only wonder why the advanced machine like this is needed to get this kind of coffee.  This cup of coffee also makes me worry about the level of the barista skill and experience in making and tasting coffee as well as the familiarity with this advanced coffee machine.

 I can’t recommend this shop, based on my experience with its espresso.  Service and decoration, however, are another story; they were good.  Nevertheless, bear in mind that Casa Lapin is now a big chain so the quality of each shop is different, depending on the barista at the time.  As such, the job one that Casa Lapin should do is trying to standardize the quality of brew among shops.

Other Info. : I only have espresso and I can't recommend it to anybody. Stick with iced drink I believe which provides some cover up to issues with its coffee.
