Someone gave me a banana blossom. Don’t know how I should cook it at first. But there is some chili paste for curry left in my refrigerator and fried fritter is always my favorite dish. So I decided to cook this “Fried Banana Blossom Fritter” and share the recipe with all OpenRicer friends. Yummy!

Ingredient and Portion
1. 1 Banana blossom
2. 1 Egg
3. Chili paste 1 tbsp.
4. Tempura flour 2 tbsp.
5. Soy sauce 1 tsp.
6. 2 Kaffir lime leaves (sliced)
7. Sweet basils (if you like)
Seasoning
Ingredients for Acar Fermented Cucumber
1. 2 Yellow chili peppers
2. 1 Cucumber
3. 4 Shallots
4. Vinegar 1 tbsp.
5. Water 1 tbsp.
6. Sugar 2 tbsp.
7. Salt 1 tsp.
Method
1. Peel off banana blossom until only white petals left. Cut across in half and slices the blossom into pieces. Soak the banana blossom in water with lime juice.
2. Mix tempura flour, egg, chili paste, sliced kaffir lime leaves and soy sauce together. Add sliced banana blossom into the mixing bowl and mix well.
3. Pour cooking oil into a pan. Fill up half of the pan. Heat up the pan on medium heat until the oil boiled.
4. Scoop up the banana blossom mixture with a ladle. Press the mixture into a pancake size. Deep fried the fritter until cooked and turn golden.
5. Take the fritter out of the oil. Placed on a paper towel to drain extra grease.
6. Mix yellow chilli peppers, cucumbers, shallots, vinegar, water, salt and sugar well together to make acar fermented cucumber. Serve with the banana blossom fritters
Tips
Soaking a banana blossom in water with lime juice or vinegar can help prevent the blossom blackening. When deep frying the fritter, use medium heat. If the heat is too high, the fritter skin would be scorched while the inside is still uncooked.
